Racing Towards Adventure: A Whirlwind Start to My 80-Day Odyssey!

All to raise funds and awareness for Dementia UK

Well, folks, grab your binoculars and strap on your racing hats because the time has finally come! After months of meticulous planning and a week that could rival any soap opera for drama, my delightful wife Julie and I are officially in the starting stalls. We're kicking off our grand adventure with a relaxing evening at the White Hart Hotel in Exeter, gearing up for my mammoth 80-day challenge: visiting all 59 British racecourses!

Picture this: me, Julie, and a suitcase packed to the brim with excitement and probably too many socks, embarking on what promises to be the ride of a lifetime. And where better to start this epic journey than Exeter Racecourse? It's like the grand opening of the Olympics, but with more horses and fewer sequins (although Julie did try to sneak a few into her suitcase).

Exeter Racecourse, one of the Jockey Club courses, is just the beginning of my whirlwind tour. With the support of the Racecourse Association and a whole lot of enthusiasm, I'm ready to hit the turf and chase down this challenge like a determined jockey on a winning streak.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "But where can I catch a glimpse of this intrepid adventurer?" Fear not, dear readers, for I have meticulously planned out my entire itinerary. From the rolling hills of Scotland to the bustling suburbs of London, I'll be popping up at racecourses left, right, and center. It's like Where's Wally, but with more horses and fewer stripes.

And here's the best part: you can join in on the fun too! Whether you're a seasoned racegoer or just fancy a day out in the sun (fingers crossed for good weather), I'd love to see your smiling faces in the crowd. So dust off your hats and get ready to cheer me on as I gallop towards victory, one racecourse at a time.

But wait, there's more! If you're feeling particularly generous (or just want to earn some good karma points), you can show your support by donating to my Just Giving page. Every penny goes towards supporting a cause close to my heart, and trust me, your generosity will not go unnoticed. Plus, think of the bragging rights you'll have when you tell your friends you helped fund the adventure of a lifetime!

So, dear readers, as I bid you adieu and head off into the sunset (or more likely, the rainy British countryside), I leave you with one simple request: share this blog post far and wide. Let's spread the word and make this journey one for the history books. Until next time, keep your eyes on the finish line and your hearts full of cheer. The race is on, and I intend to win! This blog will hopefully be updated daily if I have any energy left. Graham Arnold 6th April 2024
